Addy's Room Redesign - HELP PLEASE!!

Addy's 3rd birthday is coming up on April 3 (How did this kid make it to THREE??), and for her present, we are going to upgrade her into a "Big Girl" bed and room. Here's the pickle: she is certainly an opinionated kid, but she has no idea what she wants, so she's been completely useless in helping me figure out bedding/paint/etc. This is a plus of course because I get to pick whatever I want, but...I don't know what I want either!! I want to be sure it's cute and age appropriate, but something that will also last awhile - i.e. no Hannah Montana/Disney Princesses.

I'm posting below a few ideas I've had and I'm going to open up a voting poll. PLEASE VOTE!! I need other opinions!! I mostly looked at kids stores, so if you've seen bedding somewhere else that would be cute for a little toddler muffin, PLEASE send me a pic. I'm not totally in love with anything yet, so any new ideas would be most welcome. THANKS!!!! How about for the person that manages to find me the perfect bedding, I will bake some fab cupcakes of your choice...unless you live out of state.....then you just get my air kisses. Loves!

1. OWL #1 (drawback - this one is muy expensive so I could probably only get 1 piece - probably the quilt)

2. HAWAIIAN HIBISCUS (Ammon thinks this one would be ridiculous since we live in a land locked state. Eh??? Silly man.)

3. OWL #2 (cute, but not sure I'm in love with the color palette)

4. RED HAWAIIAN (fun, but what in the heck color do you paint a room to match this???)

5. FUNKY FLOWERS (certainly intersting, but too much?)

6. BASIC POLKA DOTS (either pink or green -no more purple allowed. Too boring?)

7. GREEN STITCHING (also maybe a little dull?)

Okay, landlocked so does not matter, its the feel of the beach. I vote for both #1 and 2. Neither is too cutesy to last a while, but young enough to not be too much. I chose the hawaiian one for my Katie did (who is obsessed with beaches) There are so many paint colors to pull from either set... Bummer on the price of owl set 1. Thats just my two cents.

I like 1 & 2 as well. You should REALLY go over to Marshalls and check out what they have--there are some cute polka dot sheet sets and some cute quilts and shams that you could mix and match easily.

I like #5 and it would last for awhile.

Personally, I think that #2 is the best of the choices. Tropical is classic, i.e. it's not going to be out of style in 2 years like the owls, and be really difficult to find should you ever want to add/change any pieces. Personally, Micaela, I think you're a talented enough person that you can create a fabulous room without spending big bucks on a predesigned "room in a bag." Check out the upcoming Consignment sales and garage sales, and develop a look that's totally original for Addie. It will be more work, but it's better than hearing, "Oh, my niece has that bedroom set, too!"

I would invest in a really cute quilt (like the owl #1) and then buy everything else at Marshalls and TJMaxx. Get a cute striped bed skirt, a different color polka dot sheet set and lot of throw pillows. They always have a ton of cute stuff - HomeGoods is really great as well - and so much cheaper than Pottery Barn! For furniture, you can get the best deals at garage sales and then just paint everything white.

I have been dying over that PB kids Owl set (#1) for a while. Love it. However, there is a chance owls might get tired (the theme, not the birds). Anyway... I say either #1 or #2, which has delicious colors and flowers are timeless. Have fun!

okay i finally ventured out of bloglines and saw the cute pic of walker and addy. they are too cute. (I have been meaning to respond to your e-mail as well, hello can I be anymore of a slacker?!) Okay I love the owl #1 and agree, go with the quilt and then get everything else cheap. You could have great fun with that quilt and decorating. Also the red hawaiian could be fun, you could do a fun blue as the complementary color. A friend of mine but a railing on the wall about a 1 1/2 from the ceiling and painted the bottom part an off white, the railing white and then the part between the railing and the ceiling green (but you could do it your blue) I think that would be awesome. So I'm going to vote for owl #1 but it means that I think you should buy the quilt and go from there with it. :) I miss ya! Oh and guess who's starting their ambien journey...ME!!! It's so lovely. Good luck with your weaning off of it. :)

Red Hawaiian. You could paint the walls an airy blue with some white stencils here and there, some grass green accent pieces, perfect! I love red. --Jen

I have always thought butterflies were cute and ageless for little girls. I like the funky flowers too.

I would probably wind up doing my own version, combining some of the owls and green stitching :)
